Egomania - Guten Morgen - Gute Nacht 2004

Welcome to the next chapter of historic emptyblaukraut recordings.This is an Egomania Record from 2004. In May 2004 Member recorded, over a period of just a week or so, every morning a good morning piece of music, with the exception of the first and the last track, that was a good night session, that started the whole thing.
At first Member created very slow patterns (23 - 80 bpm) pattern with "fruity loops" and after this he made one Live version of the pattern just adding the playing of his analog synths and a microphone hanging out of the window to add the urban sound of the moment.
After this he send the Recordings to Stolle, who edited, compiled the tracks and made a P.T.E. of the Recordings.
In 2011 Member found a new musical project called Cyberchill 3000, an electronic Chill Out Duo with Conni Maly / Lava 303. The first Live act of Cyberchill 3000 at the "Kannibalen Massaker Festival" based on the fruity loops patterns created for this Recording. You will find the Cyberchill 3000 Live Recording here.

Egomania Early Electronics - A Compilation

We're back with some new stuff from our vaults. At first some Egomania Recordings, also in waiting is more from the Stolle & Member 2010 Recordings. And we prepare some new meetings to record new Stolle & Member Music and another meeting of MIRG this Winter. So be prepared for new posts on emptyblaukraut.
First we start with this shiny diamond out of our vaults: Early Electronics. This is a 2 CD Compilation out of six or seven, where I collected my earliest adventures in electronic music. The Journey starts in 1993, the year we started the Lay De Fear Experience, that wakened my interest in electronic music. before the early 90's I didn't like electronic music at all, but in the early nineties Chris of Lay De Fear lead my interest to 70's industrial music, like the early Cabaret Voltaire. The other influence in electonics is my younger brother, a DJ, who mad his way from EBM music to Techno in the late 80's. The first three tracks reflect my enthusiam for Cabaret Voltaire and the fourth track is my very first approach into techno music. Tracks 5 -8 are taken from Egomania - First. After the Lay De Fear Experience I get more and more into techno music and became a huge fan of Air Liquide a Techno duo from Cologne who worked also together with my great hero by that time Holger Czukay and I did one of my favourite tracks of Air Liquide - If there was no gravity as a cover song in 1998.
I didn't like the complicated programming with digital equipment and got a huge interest in analog synthesizers and that lead straight to Astrosound.
And after I got tired about techno music in 2000 it lead to emptyblaukraut music. This is the start of my electronic side. Industrial Tracks, Wild Experiments, Cosmic Music and kinky grooves. you will find it all here.

MIRG - NORD 2010

This time we met in the north, at Steffis home, the Woldhof near Oldenburg, a beautiful place in the flat north of germany. We recorded these tunes in Autumn 2010. Ax Genrich & The Whole - Live Im Dreikönigskeller 23.1.2011

This is a recording of our gig with former Guru Guru - guitarist Ax Genrich. Having not played together for almost two years, and having never met Ax before, we just jumped the stage and into the cold water. The gig turned out to be fantastic. Ax is a very sweet and descent person, we connected immediately and played like we were old friends. We are looking forward to repeat this experience in autumn.

Astrosound - Welcome Back In Space 2010

We did it! ASTROSOUND Reunion!
Space, you know, Space Space Space ... remember...
For the first time we met and played together in the original Astrosound formation - Thomas - space guitar & space vocals, Heiko - space elctronics, space guitar & space vocals & Member - space electronics, space bass & space vocals... and what did we do together? Yeah, right we make space music... Space Space Space Sound, it's Astrosound.
It was like nothing had happened in the least twelve years. There was this big and neverending spaced out soundworm, that threw you out of the window into the farest galaxy there no man has been before. A Cosmic Journey through time and space. Cosmic Music like it was, is and will be...

This is our first rehearsal, we will do some more and then we will make some concerts, time will tell.

Stolle & Member - P.U.P. (Permanent Update Process) Edition #1

Dear listeners, today we start a series of brandnew Stolle & Member recordings. We will beginn slowly and it will take its time until you will hear its full scale.
During our recent sessions, we decided to push our musicmaking to a new level, and so we invented Permanent Update Process (P.U.P.), a new way of recording, editing and releasing music. We thought that it is high time to let some innovation into this, after all we consider us avantgarde,hehe. So after you have a look at our very trashy youtube video, you can listen to these first mp3 recordings, that we made by the way. This is some outtake material, first takes, basic tracks - untouched mp3 Quality. We also did an album's worth of multitrack stuff, which we intend to release in the future, while the process of editing and mixing is still going on.

We are still here and we preparing for new Stolle & Member Recordings in the next week.
Meanwhile I start my new recording tool again today, a Zoom R16 Recorder and made a Egomania Track. It's a freaky folky trash affair... I made music with some "Heimchen", a sort of cricket.
I played acoustic guitars, tambura, accordion and diarmonica, while the "Heimchen" quirk and some obscure short movies of David Lynch played in the backround.

I dedicated this song to Katja.

Stolle & Member - Low On Battery (2009)

From some kind of view we were low on battery in 2009. Stolle & Member didn't work much as a duo in the last year. So here are the collected Stolle & Member Recordings from 2009.

Track 1 - Low on Battery (Sister Ray) was a telephone session in october, there we try to record some Sister Ray Session via phone, but Stolles Recording Unit was low on battery and so I took over to save a part of it. A great VU Cover lofi acoustic adventure.

The other two tracks are recordings from the last two MIRG meetings. Its some kind of tradition in the last years, that Stolle & Member come a bit earlier and stay a bit longer on MIRG meetings, so we can glide perfectly in and out of the process. Sometimes we made some Stolle & Member in these times, for excample LIVE AUS DER KÜCHE DES REUSCHBERGS happened like this.

Track 2 - Drop Out was a real Stolle & Member freak out on the "Über der Schmiede" Workshop in October 2008. Member played far out noise organ and structure master Stolle played bass and sang.... We chased the two others out of the room with this ecstatic piece.

Track 3 - Hell Bent For Leather was the Stolle & Member Farewell Piece on the last MIRG Workshop. A very cosmic experience with traces of Heavy Metal.

Astrosound Sternenklangkonzert 2.8.1998

Chapter 4 of the Cosmic Tale of Astrosound.
This is the whole concert on Marcus' (Lay De Fear, MIRG) Birthday Party in 1998. It was an outstanding concert. Still we got our structures from the "Kosmische Schaltung"-Phase, but this time we were going wild again and expand the improvisation space, Space, Space, it's ASTROSOUND.
After that we changed our name, because Heiko was unhappy with the esoteric feel of "Astrosound" and we called us "Projekt 7" and after that a lots of others I can't remember now... "Space Modul" was one of these names that lastet a little bit longer. Months later I slowly get bored of the dance and party culture, worked with Stolle again and in 2000 i quit this thing. Sure we all stayed friends and from time to time I made sessions with Heiko and with Thomas I started the Project "Amphibius" (more about Amphibius soon on emptyblaukraut). Nowadays ASTROSOUND is history and in the last months we all thaught about a reunion concert maybe around next year.
I think with these four posts you get a very good impression what ASTROSOUND was.

Astrosound Kosmische Schaltungen 1997 - 1998

Chapter 3 of the Amazing Astrosound Story.
Some Months later we are just a duo and developped our "Kosmische Schaltung". This was our new system or equipment setting. Everything is connectet and everyone played everything. We got a lot more of great synths, analog sequencers and drumcomputers by that time and our music is more groovy, melodic and mininmal, but still it's cosmic music, space you know, Space, Space, Space ... it's ASTROSOUND.
The Track "Cosmic Wings is one of the first recordings of the "Kosmische Schaltung" a tape side long session and almost some kind of ballad. After these early sessions we were working on structures, that we can use for live improvisations. "Dream of the raising fish" is the one of them I Liked most in these days. You can compare the studio version to the live version. And there is another live version called "Kosmische Phase". Both Live Versions were recorded at Weisskirchen Sessions I think.

Astrosound - 1. Weiskirchener Elektronik Tage 1997

Capter 2 of Astrosound.
Our second concert on the "1. Weisskirchener Elektronik Tage" The Weisskirchen Electronic Scene was centerd around Elektrasmus (Holger aka Zarkov & Uwe aka Yapacc), mostly shared with Guba and Astrosound. It found a home at Uwes place at this time, the house of his grandmother, i believe... We met there once in a week and doin live sessions in the cellar and invited some friends and once in the year we clebrated it in a great festival - The "Weisskirchener Elektronik Tage". It was the coolest and best hidden secret of the frankfurt techno scene in the 90s, öchem....
So this was the start of the Weisskirchen scene for me and Astrosound and the last concert with our guitar player Thomas. We decided to get more electronic and play more on Techno Parties and Raves. A drug influenced scene in that time and Thomas, the most psychedelic guitar player I knew, didn't like drugs and smoke-filled places and so we decided to go on as a duo, not that we were a drughead band, Heikos drug is the Lord and we were praying before we started playing. So you don't need drugs to be psychedelic and mind expanded. It was a spiritual sound search in endless space. Space. Space. you know... it's ASTROSOUND.
But back to this evening. I got a new synth - korg ms 20 and made strange things with turntables and heiko got a new old drumcomputer casio rz 1, which was a lot better in use for our type of music. So here we are a lot more groovy, but our space is huge and neverending.

Astrosound - Tell Me Something About Art 1997

Another Chapter in emptyblaukraut history. We're coming now to the wonderous story about Astrosound. For Member the Lay De Fear Experience lead to the beginning interrest in electronic music. In the days after Lay De Fear I wanted to play electronic music. By that time Air Liquide and similar artists have a deep impact on me. Live Techno Acts who made very spontaneous and improvised, psychedelic, wild, free form techno, or electronic groove music, call it as you will techno, acid, house, dub, trance, breakbeat it's all techno music. I made music on computer before, but I didn't like it. It wasn't spontaneous, it wasn't free. You had to use old analog synths, sequencers and drum computers to do real live programming. So in the beginning of 1997 I bought my first analog synth, a roland sh 2000, met some friends with the same approach and we founded the live electronic project Astrosound.
In the Beginning Astrosound were three people Thomas on guitar with thousands of effect units, Heiko on synths and drumcomputer and Member on synths and bass played through a bass-synthesizer unit. We weren't so rhythm orientatet, our aproach in music was space, the farest space an imagination can reach. When I listen to the early Astrosound today it reminds me more on bands like Hawkwind then electronic groove music. We had no real sequencers and our first drumcomputer was real shit, was the same one Lay De Fear had. But wow we were spacey, wow, Space, Space, Space, Sound ... we call it ASTROSOUND.
This is the first Astrosound Live Experience at the Kommunikationsfabrik in Frankfurt.
(Funny Thing: I play again this Friday at the Kommunikationsfabrik for the first time since 1997 and again with free electronic groove music, this time with Lover 303 (= Conni Maly (Lava 303) and Manni Neumeier (Guru Guru) More about this here.)
We played at an Exhibition. The Artist, a sculptor, made art out of scrap. The Exhibition was in a huge white room. In the middle of the room was a labyrinth with the sculptures in it and in a corner of the room was our place, but the moste place in this big room was empty space, space - you know.... It was a great experience to play here our first concert. On some tracks Uwe from Electrasmus jammed with us and it was a beginning for a new scene and stories and music to come, but more in the next chapter.

Egomania - Planet Ego Drone Orchestra 2003

Hello again, this time I will introduce to you "Planet Ego Drone Orchestra", an Egomania Record from 2003. I made the first piece called "I Am Flying" in July 2003 and was excited about it. Next thing was, listening again to "Om Helos Ra". This track is one of my personal all time favourites. An excerpt of it was on my record "Moon" from 2000. I made a new mix of the whole piece and after that, I was looking for another long drone thing to complete the CD, I found the 2002 track "Planet Ego Drone Orchestra" perfect title for the whole thing and so here it is.
All of this done live and spontaneously out of the moment. And still I love it to listen to these tracks. Timeless space journeys.

The name of the game here is Blues, man. From way down our very souls.
We got one cover version of Albert King's Born Under a Bad Sign, and our version of the Traditional In My Time Of Dying, both done by Stolle & Member at our legendary Reuschberg-Holiday in 2003.
The rest of the stuff, however, features our very own approach to the devil's music. All of it, as always, improvised freely and straight out of nowhere by MIRG, EGOMANIA, LAY DE FEAR and DER BERG GROOVT.

MIRG - Inferno Der Dimensionen P.T.E. #1 2009

Time to hear again from one of our most beloved Projects, the sweet and fragile thing called MIRG! This time we met, sadly, without Steffi and so we did a boys camp thing, drank lots of alcohol and flew away. While fighting the omnipresent flys buzzing around and in our heads, we made plenty of music, channeling the vibes of African Music, The Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, Tangerine Dream or Pink Floyd. Another thing is - we got a Tambura again which provided the drones of India.
All of this and a lot more is mixed and refined by the anarchistic manners of MIRG.
The title of the thing is borrowed from Perry Rhodan, a german pulp-SF-series that Stolle is a big fan of.
So here you got a first Psychedelic Transfer Explosion, scanning our new recordings, and believe me - This is just the tip of the Iceberg.

The Lay De Fear Tapes 1993 - 95

This is something really, really special. In 2001, a friend asked for a Lay de Fear-CD to put it on his page, muzik23. So Stolle made this wonderful P.T.E., a wild cut-up Journey through our tapes from 1993 - 1995, but then we unfortunately could not release it, and this wonderful CD got almost forgotten. However, now some time has passed, and so decided to try one more time to release this outstanding piece of art, before it gets lost....
This is a wild Journey to our early beginninings: free improvised music... Industrial, Krautrock, Ethno Fakes and Tape Collages, Tarot Sessions and Schlager Trash, - the BIG BANG of the Stolle & Member - thing !!!!

Unterwegs Mit Stolle & Member 2002

This is something special from our "Gojira"-year, 2002. One year before, we founded The Whole as our live performing project, but in the beginning of 2002 we had a crisis during our so called "Black Whole - Workshop", and so we decided to perform live as Stolle & Member. This was some kind of a life demo CD for concert organisers. Nothing happened, of course. (It was only after re-establishing The Whole as a live band, that we started performing as Stolle & Member also.)
There are some outtakes from the Gojira CD and some interesting new tracks we did later in 2002.
Gospel Road is a piece done on UBIK paint's old 8-track tape recorder.
Loop One is based on double bass loops done by member, overdubbed by stolle and then overdubbed again by member.

Stolle & Member - Dies Ist Mein Leben (2006)

These are four pieces recorded on Computer in Frankfurt & Bruchausen in 2006.

Sonne Platz is a beautiful little MIRG song which we lost the original recording of, - covered and thus saved by Stolle & Member.

Dies ist mein Leben is a long free-folk improvisation, recorded at Member's sleeping room and overdubbed at the PC.

Forbidden Planet is a space jam paying tribute the well known science fiction movie.

Kontrolle is an industrial indie song, recorded at Stolle's place to get him used to Cubase (which failed, he still refuses to record to computer).

After "Lay De Fear" fell apart in 1996, everyone went separate ways..

Chris went on doing acting workshops at the Reuschberg, hangin' around in the dark wave scene and lost contact to Stolle & Member. Stolle lived his live in Karlsruhe in the southwest of Germany, worked as a DJ and played in his band "UBIK paint". Member lived in Frankfurt played in the Crossover band "Tinnitus Mask" and in the live-electronic-project "Astrosound".

But soon Stolle & Member started an intensive exchange of letters and music. The LAY DE FEAR-experience had to be worked out, wounds had to heal, and time had to pass to get the right perspective. So they paid visits from time to time, and after two years Stolle & Member carefully began to make music together again.

This early identification phase extended over the year 1998. All developed pieces were numbered and this is why this period is called "Numbers".

1 & 2 were experimental electroacoustic pieces. Stolle & Member iniatially were not very content with the results, and so they restricted themselves in just playing two acoustic guitars, because like Holger Czukay said- restriction is the mother of the inventive play. With exception of the pieces of 20 - 23 and evenly 1 & 2 are thus all pieces of the "Numbers" series are played using just acoustic guitars. We proudly present now, in rapid consequence, edited versions of all "Numbers" pieces from 1 - 26.

In the second part of our "Numbers" series comes the first highlight: 8 (eight) - a tribute to the music of "The Tiger Lillies". Member sings the heartbreaking love song about eight, the girl who has been too long with the seven boys. The song is totally free improvised and a perfect example for "Stolle & Member" Songs come out of nothingness and shine....
This was that same old magic we experienced while playing with Lay De Fear, and it finally reassured us to continue to walk that path leading through our ever-changing universe.

Here's the third part of our "Numbers" Series.

9 is called "Nine Days in Hell" is a blues/gospel type of song. Stolle plays stand up bass and sings the happy lamentation.

10 is called "Zen" and a Zen way to get in our kind of music.

11 is called "Elfquest" and our meditative tribute to the comics of Richard and Wendy Pini.

12 (Twelve). Stolle sings slightly ecstatic in this wild and beautiful song.

13 is called "3Zen" and our interpretation of the japanese folk song "kojo no tsuki" turning into a moody and wild balkan-gypsy style. One of the best tunes in the "Numbers" series.

14 is called "Quatorce" and its our beautyful meditation about la france

15 in the original length of 23 minutes you can find really everything we tried to achieve in the "Numbers" series. In this edit you just hear the song conclusion...and it's still a highlight.

In 16 we were just a bit of lazy, doin this again and so you can hear stolle playing a little bit of "a chien d'espace" by motorpsycho, while member is "bongsmoking"...

Before we come to an end with the "Numbers" series, we get electric again in the numbers 20 –23.

20 is called "20 Umbrellas" and as you see, the experiences of the acoustic phase are now integrated in our electronic setting.

21 is called 21 "Secrets" and turned to be a typical Stolle & Member Song.

22 is a slow drone groove.

23 is a remix of a remix. Stolle did an experimental solopiece with distorted guitars & vocals called 23. Member did a techno remix of this piece and then Stolle & Member used this remixed piece as a basic for the last electronic session in the "Numbers" series.

19 starts as a percussion thing

24 is a beautyful acoustic tune after the electric experiences of 20 - 23.

25 is called I don't need you. it's a kind of punk thing.

26 is called "Nobody needs 26", and after that we consequently stopped the series, started to develop our electro-acoustic recording setting, and began the sessions that led to the fire experience and the "Elemente" CD, the first proper record of stolle & member.

Time to jump into the time machine again and travel into the year 2001. Dope was an EP accompaniying our "Doppelalbum". Some kind of tribute to VU's Sister Ray, this became a drug influenced guitar noise piece. Back then we felt it didn't quite fit in the more pop-ish style of the Doppelalbum, so we created this EP. You get 4 different mixes and a 2001 re-visit to our track "23" from 1998, the beginning of the Stolle & Member work as a duo, in the so called "Numbers" - Era. More about Numbers in our next post.

This is A Compilation of Music we did in 2008 & 2009. Some of the tracks you might know from previous posts, while others are unreleased until now.
"CD 1" shows some new tracks of Egomania, Members Solo Project, some pieces of "Der Berg Groovt", Members Hippie Neighbour Collective, and the complete soundcheck of "Damo Suzuki & The Whole"'s last concert in december last year.
The focus on "CD 2" is on "MIRG", "Steffi & Stolle" & "Stolle & Member". Steffi & Stolle is a one of our rare and always delightful "half-mirg"-projects. Steffi & Stolle are the two singer/songwriter type of musicians, while the other two Marcus & Member are more kind of a free flow kind and not so well musically educated.... whatever that means. This is the first time Steffi & Stolle joined as a duo, because Steffi wished to make a Blues record with Stolle. They met last year at Stolle's place and did some wonderful and very recommended recordings, although not quite Blues. Listen to it here for the first time, and maybe we are posting more of this beautiful music. Same thing with the music of MIRG. We meet just once a year, making the most beautiful music, record it ... just to disappear in our archives. Here are three incredible pieces made during our last meeting at the Akademie Reuschberg.

Sous les pieds la terRemixed

We took part in a Remix thing with our projects MIRG and Der Berg Groovt.

One year ago, Philippe Baudouin (aka Monsieur Tympan - phonographer) and Alexandre Manzanares (photographer) have produced a sound and photographic documentary about rural world, available on CD, called "Sous les pieds, la terre" (which means "Under the feet, the land"). To realize this project, they have collected sounds and pictures of people and landscapes they've met on the road: old country people, kids in garden, sounds of agricultural tools, beauty of mountains... In September 2008, Philippe decided to put online 30 samples of the sounds he recorded and to collaborate with Headphonica to release on their netlabel. With this sound samples, everyone was invented to make his own remix. The idea was to propose people to appropriate these field-recordings and to make a subjective remix. Even if these different sounds come from a very little part of the world (Vaucluse, France), the 80 remixes they've received show us the universality of these ones.

It was another wonderful occasion for us to throw our improvised jams at the former Can-Singer to take them and shout it out to the world. Damo was in a quite melodic mood this evening, and we were on fire, supported by Matthias on guitar, who gave our music a nice new colour. We recorded this on laptop and got a quite descent sound.

Happy New Year To You All....
Here We Are Again...
One Month ago since our last gig with Damo Suzuki & The Whole. In the meantime I had another freaky concert with my neighbourhood collective "Der Berg Groovt" on January the third, also with them, I had a wonderful New Years Eve Session and we build our new Studio and I integrated my equipment there and turned my bedroom into a space lab, in october I started a new job to earn my living and working with kids again. Now It's time to continue with our blog....
At first we will post our last gig with Damo. Here is a download link to some pictures of this magic evening.
2008 was heavy productive and all here is just the top of the Eisberg.
There is a lot of outstanding unreleased material from the last Stolle & Member Sessions.
There was an incredible meeting with MIRG.

Stolle & Member - Sonntags Aufm Dorf 2008

Welcome to the next chapter of the Adventures of Stolle & Member's July 2008 Recordings!
This time we present you some more song- and freak-folk-oriented tunes.
The title "Sonntags Aufm Dorf" means Sunday in the village, because Stolle lives in a little village and enjoys it pretty much. This is the shortest mix of this original 15 minutes piece, maybe later we might release some more of this.
At the beginning of our meeting, Stolle's girlfriend was still there, trying to get a ride to Berlin, and so Stolle sings for her "I wanna go to Berlin" in the second song.
"Ohne Strom" was one of our best, sadly unrecorded tunes, so we use the lyrics of the song to overdub another.
"I'm a Funky Brother" was a little funky track that we recorded to calm down right after the "When The Machines Rock" -Experience.
"Das Grammophon" was an overdub made by Member during the master process at his home, using a radio and vocals.
"Soundcheck" was the very first track we recorded as a recording soundcheck.
"Öffne Dein Herz" -Open Your Heart is a beautiful little tune with acoustic guitars and toy keyboard.
"10 Jahre 98" is a two-acoustic-guitars-tune, as we did way back in the days of our "Numbers-" Period in 1998, which had been the start of Stolle and Member as a Duo.
"Dogyo Ninin" is a electro-acoustic piece with the use of distortion and feedback on percussion and keyboards. The track title was inspired by Ian McDonald's SciFi Book "Scissors Cut Paper Wrap Stone"
The Centerpiece of these tunes is a track called "Die Fingur". An electro-acoustic tour de force using delayed toy keys, bass, flute, zither and several percussion. In this track and also in "Das Grammophon" we use Poems of Christian Morgenstern, a well-known german writer.

HLFP 02 - Embryo Thoughts

This is the second Compilation from homemade lofi psychedelic. The Concept for this Compilation was, that every artist recorded a song exclusively for that compilation. The Call arrived to us just as Member arrived at home after the Stolle & Member recording workshop, so it was easy for us to choose one new track that fits perfect into this compilation. Member did a mix of one track called "Wellen", that we recorded on two different sources, CD & MD, mix it together and cut it down to the recommended length of 10 minutes and send it to Mike, the contributor of homemade lofi psychedelic, and then Members Computer crushed down, because the motherboard was damaged...

Now everything is fixed again all the data was saved and we're back again to please you with emptyblaukraut music starting with this compilation....

Sorry for the lack of posts in the last weeks, again Member got some problems with his computer on the other hand we were very busy....

Stolle & Member did a recording workshop in Stolles "blaukraut microstudio" we will posting soon some tracks.... A first snippet can be heared on the "HLFP 02" Compilation....

...and then Member did a collaboration with the brazilian keyboarder Gustavo Jobim, for his CD "Belles Alliances" the collaboration companion to his new solo recording "Abstract Paintings". These two CDs will be released on September 1st as a free download internet release, so be prepared for that....

Lay De Fear - Im Zentrum Des Lichts 1994

In the beginning of our constantly changing universe there was a strange experimental free impro group called LAY DE FEAR. Stolle Fear, Member Fear and Chris Fear founded this group in february 1993.

The music of LAY DE FEAR took place in a former monastery, the theatre "Akademie Reuschberg".

We used to meet just three times a year for long trip out weekends. Additional to the three founders, there sometimes were 15 people around who shared our musical vision, among them Steffi and Marcus and many others.

In autumn 1993 we did our first live gig to support Damo Suzuki at the Asta Fest, FH Frankfurt.

Our influences were groups like CAN, Velvet Underground and Nine Inch Nails. The Music happened very spontaneous, out of the moment we were doing it, and oscillated between industrial, toy-keyboard-avantgarde-schlager, meditation, nonsense and free kraut rock textures.

Although after four years the project fell apart in 1996, it had a deep impact on us, it truly can be said that this experience changed our lives. Stolle & Member continued this trip as a duo and since then devotedly built this constantly changing universe until now, and promise to
walk that road further on and on and on.....

This, now, is a look in our best gig ever, at the ZENTRUM Offenbach on April the 30th 1994.

This post was inspired by homemade lofi psych, who posted a dedication to Lay De Fear, a live track from the band Orange.

Egomanias deep dig into dark ambient. 2002 was a dark year in Members Life. His father died, his girlfriend left. This record is his retrospective view to the year 2002. Recorded in December 2002. The first recordings with his 8-Track tape machine. He tuned his E-Bass down to C and played it with a bow, added spoken blues samples and spheric computersounds. Mixed forwards and backwards and then compiled for your drowning pleasure in 2003. Gaze into the abyss with member.

Stolle - Wood Songs 2004

After finishing his LAST - album, Stolle took things literally and stopped recording as an Solo-Artist. In 2004, however he started recording again, this time featuring just his voice, his acoustic guitar (and ...errrr... a telephone), and mostly doing covers of stuff he found influential on him or that was requested by his friends (Member, for example, requested Radioaktivität). Thus returning to his roots as the semiprofessional campfire-musician he was in his teens, the result was pretty cool. A beautiful cover was made by Jürgen, - and nothing happened.

But then, last week, Jürgen came to the bar where Stolle works, had some Single Malt Whiskys, and so it came to pass that finally we have another Stolle record - the one after the last one. Never say never, they say...

Stolle - Last 2002

in 2001, stolle got increasingly dissatisfied with his project UBIK paint, which he finally left. Also, a relationship to a girl ended in a very heartbreaking way. this record is the result of a creative eruption to overcome these things. The title being almost prophetic, this is stolle's last solo record until now, and he considers it as his best, also.

Our Heroes performing live again. Once more, it was a very relaxed thing, everything went smoothly, and you can hear Finn, the bass player of the support act, who joined us on bass spontaneously and, in the last track Tor Löwenherz, an old friend of Member, who also played bass in our closing track - a 3 Bass-Player Performance . Because of the place, which had several design-ateliers in the neighborhood, we named the tracks after famous designers. After the gig, the listeners asked as about the story Member improvised in "Colani", so in case you want to know, we'll put the text in the comments.

This is Members first rough mix of the show, but we still like it. Recorded the same way we did it last time - 8 track laptop recording.

MIRG in the year 2000 was really special. The first time we worked outside Reuschberg at Stolles Home, and the first time we did multitrack recording with MIRG.
A creative overflow and beautiful recordings were the result and it still sounds good.It was the first great peak for MIRG...

UBIK paint - A Collection of 2006 Remasters

UBIK paint was Stolle's Band at his hometown, working from 1996-2001. Meeting at least once a week, Martin, Stephan and Stolle recorded their stuff with an experimental approach, which did not prevent the occasional pop-song from emerging. Having three strong Singer/Songwriters and Multiinstrumentalists in one Band was not the worst thing either. They released 3 1/2 records, played a handful of gigs, and nothing happened. All participants agree that UBIK paint was the best band they ever had. For further information, check Stephan's page ubisonic.

After splitting, Stolle got the analogue 8-Track-Recorder and all of the Mastertapes, so that in 2006 he did a complete remastering of that stuff, of which you can hear a collection right here.

Sometimes the Internet is just a small part in our life and there is no time left to upload our music on this blog. In the meantime Member did a gig with Der Berg Groovt on the "Gathering Of The Tribes" Festival in Frankfurt, while Steffi & Stolle made some very beautiful recordings at Stolles Place in Bruchhausen, then we did a meeting with MIRG for a week at the Akademie Reuschberg to celebrate Steffi's Birthday. After this we doin the job and live our hard lives. We listened to a lot of stuff from our vaults to keep it up here. The next thing we will present to you, it will be a shiny diamond - I promise. Oh and by the way, we re-upped the second part of Stolle & Member - Reuschberg ...
In the next days we play again with Damo Suzuki & The Whole at the Cellarium in Knittlingen on May, 9 and just six days later on May, 15 we doing our next Stolle & Member Gig at the Wort & KlangBildstelle Frankfurt. More Infos on our myspace site.

STOLLE - PLASTIK RADIO (2001)

In 2000, Stolle got some presents: first was a child's toy keyboard, and second was an old four track cassette-recorder. with the help of Member and Stephan from UBIK paint, this album was made. the lofi-approach of the music is contrasted by a professional worked out concept and cover art.

The Whole - November

The Whole is our Live Rock Band. We're playing sometimes together with Damo Suzuki ... But most of the time, we're a Classic - Rock Trio - Bass, Guitar & Drums.
Beside our live activities we met for three times at the Reuschberg and play in the chapel of the former monastery.

These are some recordings of our workshop in November 2005. At the one hand we have, our classic-free-form-rock, based deep into the roots of rock music, like "Crossroads" and "Ferryboat Bill" - and on the other hand there is this Reuschbergian Magic, you can hear in the more far - out tracks, like "Rainy Day", "O Weia O Inga" & "Obazda"

EGOMANIA - COLLAGE D.R.S. (1996)

As we said, Collage is a P.T.E. - One Soundstream, with a lot of cuts, bits and pieces. I recorded the songs in 1996 on IV-Track heavily influenced by the work of Holger Czukay. I never really used a real sampler for these recordings, I used tapes, records, cds, mixing desk and effects, especially my magic blue delay, that gave the name for our famous origin in experimental music making "Lay de Fear". The only thing that cames near to a ordinary sampler was the Akai Riff-O-Matic, a guitar training sample toy.
In 2000 I made digital remix and remasters from the IV-Track Tapes and P.T.E.d these tracks to form the regular COLLAGE CD, you get below. Here now as pre-listening appetizers, some tunes from the records in the pure mixes, among them, my favourite track from the recordings: "UBIK City Blues".

EGOMANIA - COLLAGE (1996)

Now you're in for a special treat. Listen to Member's most ambitious solo-work, Collage. As the title says, it's a mindblowing trip through many different spaces, mostly made by sampling and mixing different music together. We got this thing going called PTE, Psychedelic Transfer Explosion, which we had developed together over the years. It's pretty important in our musicmaking, so let me drop some words about it. Ever since we got to know each other, we sent us mixtapes, and later recorded cd-compilations, with music to turn the other one on. Member trying to pull Stolle into his psychedelic view of things, he named one of these tapes Psychedelic Transfer to Another World, there he mixed up to four sound sources simultaneously together through his IV Track Recorder. So the name was born. Stolle being a professional DJ, he recorded his tapes and cds through a DJ-mixingdesk, and so the mixtapes soon became mash-up-style, totally experimental affairs, mixing several different kinds of music together, becoming a new thing with its own dynamics and style - the PTE. Soon we did a series of radio-shows together called midnight radio, doing 60-minute-PTEs just for fun. We often use PTEs for the mixing of our own music, Gojira, for example, is one long PTE done live by Stolle, and here on Collage Member followed that same path.

Stolle & Member - Doppelalbum (2001) Re-Up

The follow up CD to "Elemente" was "Doppelalbum".For this one, we used the structure of a classical 70ies double LP, like for example Can's "Tago Mago" . On the first LP we had the more or less short songs, and the longer and more experimental pieces on the second record. We recorded the songs on 4-track in 3-5 days, but the mixing process endured over one year. Now, six years later, we think that the concept was too strong for the record. The experiment failed, but nevertheless there are some of our best compositions on this CD.

STOLLE & MEMBER - ELEMENTE Re-Up

In fall 1999, after both of us had done some solo work, we came together at Member's new place to do some recording. This session, that turned out to be most part of our first proper record, will be eternally remembered as the fire sessions. Ever since playing with Lay de Fear, we focus deeply on the spiritual side of the musicmaking. Now, this time, we felt extremely spiritual. While doing a hell of a session, we got totally blown away. At some point Member remarked, that it's getting pretty smoky in here, which did not keep us from playing on. Then he realized that he could not see the recording unit anymore. Of course he couldn't. The whole room was filled with smoke, because the kitchen was burning. We got pretty nervous, but succeeded in stopping the fire quickly. So the piece we just recorded got its name. After that, it seemed that because of the smoke our master-cd was not working, which meant, the whole recording was lost. We are used to that: often it seems that the best music we make is not recorded. We tried to save the recording, but no way. Months later, Stolle took another try, put that magic cd in his player - and it worked. Thus hearing those legendary sessions for the first time, he instantly made a backup copy. Now we finally could finish our first record, almost one year after recording it.

A pure live project.
This was the second concert with Damo Suzuki, the famous CAN singer in the early 70's.

We recorded the gig with 8-Tracks on laptop.

The first set started with Kluster, an electronic piece, with sampler, ms 20 and organ, after that we flew away with Strasse. The second set was just one long ecstatic piece we called Nebel.

On this evening, as you can see on the pictures, we were enlightend by the beautiful psychedelic lightshow of Kosmik Klaus.

The Recordings took place at a time when I was one of the masterminds of the experimental group LAY DE FEAR, spending our nights improvising in the great staircase.

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, Member had troubles with his computer. We will resume posting now, add some more MIRG stuff, post some Egomania and Stolle solo stuff, and renew some broken older links also, so check the older posts. This year we expect to be a busy one. We plan to do several gigs with Damo Suzuki & The Whole, Member's Der Berg ruft - project will perform, Stolle has just started to record again at home, and many more things are planned. MIRG - ANTEILNAHME 2007 #1

MIRG

Now we think it's time to introduce one of our most beloved projects, MIRG. This sweet and fragile thing was founded by former LAY DE FEAR partipiciants Steffi, Marcus, Stolle & Member in 1999. Since then MIRG has met just once or twice a year to create some of the most beautiful free impro music. In fact, we met just two weeks ago at the Reuschberg for a 5-day-workshop, which turned out to be most productive, as you can hear now.

To support the process of musicmaking, we decided to keep the recording process quite simple and worked with a MiniDisc-Recorder and one Stereo-Mic, which can easily be carried around to follow MIRG on their musical adventures. We'd like to start with three sessions, which we did in a row on one afternoon. First was

MONDAMIN
After having breakfast on saturday, 11-17-07, and doing some acoustic sessions right in the kitchen, we switched over to the socalled Blue Salon right next door to do this one. The Blue Salon is a strange mixture between a storage room, where you can find all kinds of kitchen stuff, and leisure room with video players, table soccer, toys for kids and so on. Because of a huge very old harmonium and a self-built, nearly as old home organ also standing there, we always like to do music in there, But mostly this room is just too filled with stuff. Not this time, so we recorded almost every session there.

So we started playing, and things went their way. You can hear Member on harmonium, Steffi on bass and Marcus on guitar and Stolle on the drumtracks. At this point Stolle started strolling through the room to look for some inspiration, and came over to a table full of kitchen supplies. Saw a box of Mondamin, a german starchflour product, showed it to the players and started singing what turned out to be some kind of Mondamin-Commercial.

FREE TIBET
We returned to the kitchen and relaxed. Marcus started painting, Stolle read Perry Rhodan, a german SF-Pulp-Series, Member read the new Eric Clapton-Autobiography and Steffi read in her book of Maroccan Short Stories dealing with cooking with onions, when she suddenly stopped reading, heading over to the Blue Salon and started singing ALLAHUH AKHBAR while playing bowed bass.

Soon the others joined in, Member is playing harmonium, Stolle plays an India Tambura-like Drone with distorted & delayed guitar and Marcus played his wonderful Glockenspiel. The spiritual praying mutated to a freaked out noise meditation - ALLAHUH AKHBAR became FREE TIBET and this thing here was born.

TESTOSTERON/PALE BLUE EYES
Usually, we regard MIRG as our project where we mainly do acoustic, meditative stuff, very sweet and fragile. Not this time. Maybe we listened too much to Jackie-O-Motherfucker in these days, be it as it may, this time we did lots of lofi-noise-drone-stuff, (or punk, as some of us might name it). This one is a good example for it. For the equipment-fanatics let me shortly describe you our electrnics-section: We had a korg-ms-20, a sequential circuits drumtraks drumcomputer, a casio sa-21 child-toy-keyboard , a toy- microphone, each of this sent individually through various effect devices, mixed through a 30-year-old (defect) 4-track-tape-recorder and as a PA we used a equally old and defect Karaoke-Station, which has been out of use for ten years or so till we found it at the loft. This is what we mean when we talk lo-fi.

So on this one you can hear Stolle on guitar, Steffi on bass, Marcus on drums and Member on keys until the noise took over everything so that some of us simply left the room. At the end, Stolle turned downed the volume a bit, took an acoustic guitar and sang Pale Blue Eyes close to the Mike, and right in the middle of this the recording stopped because the minidisc was full, but shit happens as we all know.

EGOMANIA - Tribute To The Disconnected 2007

Im August dieses Jahres brachte die legendäre Krautrock Band FAUST gemeinsam mit NURSE WITH WOUND relativ unbemerkt ihre beste Platte seit ihrer Glanzzeit in den 70ern heraus. Die Platte heißt "Disconnected" und wäre ich nicht in der faust-mailing-list wäre diese Platte unbemerkt an mir vorbeigegangen. So aber hat mir Jean Hervé Peron, Bassist und Gründungsmitglied der Band, das Werk gleich nach Erscheinen zugeschickt und ich habe mich zügig bedankt und als dankeschön mit einer Tribute CD geantwortet.
"Tribute to the Disconnected" ist ein faustischer cut up durch die EGOMANIA Produktionen der letzten Monate, den Gesang übernimmt quasi Jean Hervé mittels Samples der Faust Platte.
Die Platte beginnt wild mit gefoltertem Drum Computer und verzerrten digitalen Sitarklängen und wird im Verlauf immer ruhiger.
Eine Reise vom Krach in die Stille. Darin ähnelt sie der Faust Platte, ansonsten ist sie musikalisch eine klassische EGOMANIA Platte.
EGOMANIA ist das Solo-Projekt von Member. Elektronische Mehrspur Spielereien zwischen Kraut-New Age-Techno & Trash.
Auf meine Art eine Verbeugung vor dem großartigen Schaffen der Band Faust.

In August this year the legendary krautrock band FAUST in Collaboraion with NURSE WITH WOUND released, relatively unnoticed, their best record since the 70ies. The record called "Disconnected" and if I wasn’t in the faust-mailing-list, I had not noticed, that there is a new FAUST record. But so Jean Hervé Peron, bass player and one of the founder members of the band, send me the record and I send him back, as a thank-you, a tribute CD.
"Tribute To The Diconnected" is a faustian cut up through the EGOMANIA productions of the last months, the vocal part of the songs is taken by Jean Hervé through samples of the FAUST record.
The record started wildly with tortured drum computer and distorted digital sitarsounds and becoms over the time more and more silent.
A Journey from noise into silence. In this case "Tribute To The Disconnected" is like Faust, but the music is typical EGOMANIA.
EGOMANIA is the solo project of MEMBER. Electronic Multitrack Games between Kraut-New Age-Techno & Trash.

Nachdem wir vor Kurzem einen Overdub zu ihrem Stück Galerienmusik machten, gaben wir ihnen einen basic track aus unserer unveröffentlichten 10 CD Box "THE REUSCHBERG SESSIONS" - Aufnahmen aus dem Jahr 2003 zur Zeit unserer "REUSCHBERG" CD. Obwohl sich WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS schwer tun mit Overdubs... sie kriegen oft ihr eigenes Zeug nicht fertig, scheint es diesmal geflutscht und sie auch noch im Anschluß zu einem Faust Cover Song getrieben zu haben.
Wir sind begeistert über das Ergebnis, empfehlen jedem ihre Musik weiter und harren gespannt auf weitere Blüten dieser Kollaboration."

WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS says:
"So these strange German guys, Stolle & Member, took one of our tracks and overdubbed it (it's called "In The Gallery"). Then they sent us one of their basic tracks (from their 2003 Reuschberg album sessions) and suggested we do the same. So... here you go. Since the first half of S&M's 20 minute basic track was heavy on atmosphere, we kinda took over the proceedings. During the second half, S&M reigned supreme. Because it was a rainy day outside, we almost turned this into a cover of Faust's "It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl" but wisely decided against that. Although... we then unwisely went ahead and recorded an improvisational cover of the classic Faust song anyway. Since we're sort of hangin' around with Germans now we apparently think it's OK to do that sort of thing. Shelly predicts we won't sell a single copy. We're all inclined to agree. Our parts were recorded last week, October 7, 2007."

Zwischendrin mal ganz was anderes...denn emptyblaukraut ist nicht nur das Duo "Stolle & Member"...

Hier besuchen wir Member in seinem großen & gemütlichen Wohnzimmer & Klanglabor am 22. September 2007. Meine Nachbarn haben sich eingefunden und wir machen Hausmusik. Wir leben hier in ehemaligen Ami Army Housings in einem alternativen Wohnprojekt am Frankfurter Berg. Hier leben viele unterschiedliche Künstler und andere Freaks. Eyke ist der Kern unseres Hausmusikprojekts Tautropfen. Connie spielt Gitarre in der Frauen Band The Slags, ist DJane als Lava 303 und hat mit Guru Guru Schlagzeuger Mannie Neumeier ein Projekt namens Lover 303. Dies war eine ganz wundervolle Session mit meinen wundervollen Nachbarn. Die Musik erinnert mich an Sergius Golowin, The Cosmic Jokers, Gila & frühe Popol Vuh.

And now for something completely different... something other than "Stolle & Member"...

We're visiting Member in his huge & comfortable living room & soundlab on september, the 22nd 2007. My neighbours are here and a session takes place. We're living here in former US Army Housings in a alternative living project on the "Frankfurter Berg". There are many different artists and other kind of freaks. Eyke is one of the masterminds of our house-music-project Tautropfen. Connie plays guitar in the all girl band The Slags, is a DJane as Lava 303 and plays with Guru Guru Drummer Mannie Neumeier as Lover 303. This was a wonderful session with my wonderful neighbours. The music reminds me on Sergius Golowin, The Cosmic Jokers, Gila & frühe Popol Vuh. Beautiful Cosmic Jammin' Music...

In Vorbereitung auf unseren morgigen Gig im DaFranco in Frankfurt haben Stolle & Member sich in Members Klanglabor zusammengefunden und sich etwas warmgespielt. Unter anderem machten wir eine Session, während wir eine Velvet Underground Performance von 1966 anschauten. Hier also 18 Minuten Jammin' with the Underground! Viel Spaß und bis morgen!

Emptyblaukraut is just our own label for all the free improvising music projects where Stolle & Member are involved.

Stolle & Member are two guys from different towns - Karlruhe and Frankfurt/m.
We're making free improvised music together since 1993.

Stolle & Member as a duo is our central project, mostly studio performances...

Egomania is members solo project,

while Stolles fine and rare solo works, you find under Stolle ...

The Whole is our Rock Trio, with Christian on drums and sometimes Damo Suzuki (ex-CAN) on vocals, mostly a Live Act...

MIRG is our experimental, electroacoustic quartet with our friends Marcus and Steffi from our great past free Impro Experimental Project Lay De Fear. Mostly intimate music workshops for ourselves.

Lay De Fear was our strongly-telepathic-playing beginning of free impro music. It lasted from 1993 - 1996. The Core of the Band were Stolle, Member and Chris and sometimes up to 10 other people.

Under the name of emptyblaukraut comes the music of all of these projects and some others. We will jump in time and styles and projects.

But the Beginning of it all was a time journey through the music of Stolle & Member on our myspace site and so we started with our old Stolle & Member stuff...

Der Reuschberg ist ein magischer Ort, hier lernten sich Stolle & Member kennen in dem frei improvisierenden Experimental-Projekt Lay De Fear.
Seit 1993 fahren wir jetzt regelmäßig auf den Reuschberg, um in diesem abgelegenen ehemaligen Kloster zu musizieren.
Während eines Sommerurlaubs auf dem Reuschberg entstand dieses Konzeptalbum, als Geschenk für die Besitzer dieses magischen Ortes als Dank für die jahrelange Zusammenarbeit und Unterstützung. Elektroakustische Meditation in fünf Teilen:
